Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Scientific Research
1. Introduction
The African Journal of Applied Sciences and Humanities (AJASH) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scientific research. While these technologies can enhance efficiency and provide deeper insights, they must be used responsibly and ethically to uphold the strict integrity of academic work.
2. Acceptable Use of AI Tools
Authors may use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL) for the following purposes:
- Language editing or translation.
- Enhancing code or computational models.
Note: AI should not replace the authors' scholarly contributions or be used to generate content without full human oversight and guidance.
3. Disclosure Requirements
Any use of AI tools must be clearly and transparently disclosed within the manuscript, including:
- The name of the specific tool(s) used.
- The exact purpose or task it was used for.
This disclosure must prominently appear in the "Methods" section or within a dedicated acknowledgment section.
4. Authorship and Responsibility
AI tools cannot be listed as authors under any circumstances. Human researchers bear full and ultimate responsibility for the content, accuracy, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts.
Important Warning: Misuse of AI that leads to plagiarism, data fabrication, or false authorship may result in the immediate rejection or formal retraction of the manuscript.
5. Review and Revision of this Policy
This policy will be periodically reviewed in line with rapid technological and ethical developments. The journal reserves the right to amend its guidelines at any time to reflect academic best practices.
