Self Archiving

1. Introduction

The African Journal of Applied Sciences and Humanities (AJASH) supports open knowledge dissemination and encourages authors to self-archive their research responsibly. This policy outlines the terms under which authors may share versions of their articles while preserving academic integrity and respecting copyright regulations.

2. Definition of Self-Archiving

Self-archiving refers to the practice of authors depositing a version of their research article in personal, institutional, or subject-specific repositories, or on their personal websites, allowing public access to the content.

3. Permitted Versions for Archiving

Preprint (Before Peer Review)

Allowed without restriction, provided a clear disclaimer is added stating that it is an unreviewed, preliminary version.

Postprint (After Peer Review)

Allowed after final acceptance, with a clear citation of the acceptance date and the original journal source.

Published Version (Version of Record)

Allowed after publication, provided there is a proper citation, a direct DOI link, and the Creative Commons license (CC BY 4.0).

4. Archiving Conditions

  • The original source must be clearly cited as the African Journal of Applied Sciences and Humanities (AJASH).
  • A direct link (DOI) to the officially published version must be provided.
  • The license (CC BY 4.0) must be included with the archived version.
  • The final published version must not be modified or reformatted.

5. Acceptable Archiving Platforms

Authors are permitted to archive their articles on:

  • Institutional repositories (e.g., university archives).
  • Subject-specific repositories (e.g., arXiv, SSRN, RePEc).
  • Academic social networks (e.g., ARID, ResearchGate, Academia.edu).
  • Personal academic websites.
  • Open access databases.

6. Copyright

Copyright is retained by the journal. However, authors retain the right to self-archive their work in compliance with the journal’s licensing terms (CC BY 4.0), and it cannot be used for commercial purposes without explicit permission.

7. Purpose of the Policy

Increase the visibility and reach of published research, support open access principles, and encourage wider dissemination and citation of scholarly work.

8. Review and Updates

This policy is reviewed biennially or as needed to reflect updates in international open access and self-archiving standards.
